Plans for May

It begins!

First of all, since I'm excited about it, I bought some new hiking shoes; now I have no choice but to use them!  They are called Merrell Moab Waterproof Hiking Shoes, and they are so comfy! I've never owned a pair of hiking shoes before and so far I'm impressed.

I'm planning on walking in these.

The Adventure

Okay, enough about me. On May 8th and 9th we are starting off our Utah adventure by heading to Bryce Canyon and Calf Creek Falls, which is right outside Escalante National Forest.

Bryce Canyon

We are going to hit up the Navajo Loop and Queen's Garden Trail about mid-afternoon so we can be there for the sunset. There is point along the trail called sunset point, here you have a perfect view of the sunset and the rest of Bryce Canyon, apparently the sunset is supposed to look pretty spectacular here.

The highest rock on the right is called, Thor's Hammer.

Depending on conditions we might camp over night or we will hit up a motel in the town of Tropic that isn't too far off. Of course I'm leaning more toward camping, which would be a lot more cheaper.

Calf Creek Falls

Calf Creek Falls is just a little bit east from Bryce Canyon which is why we decided to do this in the same trip, that way we don't have to drive all the way back down south just to hike 6 miles. Once we are done here we will be driving back to Salt Lake City.

Oh, by the way, did I mention this looks AWESOME??

What's Next?

The week after we are planning on a hike somewhere here in Salt Lake. It doesn't really matter where, so I'm not gonna plan any of these hikes, we're just gonna wing it!

Tiana is leaving for Texas at the end of the month so I haven't made any plans for the rest of May. But I would be down to do something if anyone has any ideas!

Come With Us!

Again, the more the merrier! Let me know if you want to go and we will figure out driving arrangements. Make sure to ask for the 8th and the 9th off!

First Post!

Let's get started!

I haven't blogged before, so get ready for a rocky ride. (pun intended) The reason for this blog is that, this summer, Tiana and I are planning on discovering Utah. We are going to hit up some of the most amazing spots in this awesome state.

I had a friend tell me once, "If you're going to live in Utah, you need to discover what makes it such a beautiful state." That, along with many influences in my life, have inspired me to do just that; the strongest influence right now being the wonderful, Tiana. I don't want to do this alone and I'm thrilled to have someone take this ride with me.

Ensign Peak

Why blog it? My friend, Daniel Fawson, started a blog on his upcoming adventure to Japan. I thought it was such a great idea that I was inspired to start my own blog, cataloging my own adventure throughout Utah. Blogging it puts a little pressure on myself as well, it makes it official and is a great way to plan what we are going to do.

Plans

Every Wednesday and/or Thursday of the summer we are going to a new place in Utah--maybe Idaho and Wyoming thrown into the mix. Of course this can add up after a while as far as gas goes, so we will do a bi-weekly road trip and on the off weeks do a hike in the mountains bordering Salt Lake City. For the next few days we are going to go over the different places we want to visit and set up an itinerary. We have a few different places in mind, Lava Hot Springs and Bryce Canyon to name a couple.

Join Us!!

We would love it if anyone wants to come with! If you see a place you want to go, or if you just want to get out of the house for a day, then hit us up and we will make plans! Finally, we would love any suggestions you might have. The more input the better!
